Pottery Style in Pakistan
Nabahat Lotia recently launched her first book, the first of its kind in the country, ‘Pottery Traditions of Pakistan’ at a launch event held at Mohatta Palace. The event was attended by the art fraternity along with the literati of the city.
The event opened with writer Nusrat Khwaja welcoming the guests and introducing the four speakers – the author, Nabahat Lotia, architect Tariq Qaiser, art critic Niilofur Farrukh and writer Rumana Hussain. The first speaker was the author who traced her journey that had led to the writing of the book, sharing her learnings during her research while travelling through rural Pakistan in a visual presentation.
Niilofur Farrukh appreciated the massive effort that went into producing such a well-researched volume, especially appreciating the last chapter on women potters. Tariq Qaiser appreciated the beautiful book and mentioned that Nabahat had been his teacher in the past. Rumana Hussain read out the foreword she had written in the book about the author and her painstaking work. An interesting question and answer session followed with refreshments being served at the end of the programme.
