Refusing to be reduced or read easily, Saba Qamar turns contradiction into power—and ambiguity into her sharpest weapon.

In an industry conditioned to reward binaries—good or bad, virtuous or villainous—Saba Qamar has built an empire in the in-between.

Often likened to Hollywood icon Meryl Streep for her transformative acting range, Saba is less a performer and more a presence—an actress who dissolves into contradiction, embraces fracture, and chooses women who are difficult, disruptive, and defiantly real. “Grey characters are more real… more human,” Saba says. “Perfection is boring… flaws are interesting.”
In that ethos lies her quiet rebellion—not just against the industry, but against the very idea of being easily understood.

Born on April 5, 1984, in Hyderabad, Saba Qamar’s life began not in privilege, but in absence. The early loss of her father did not simply mark her childhood—it quietly restructured her emotional world. “Losing my father at a young age didn’t just leave a void… it reshaped how I feel and observe,” Saba reminisces. “As a child, you don’t fully understand grief, but you carry it deeply. It made me more aware of silences—of what people don’t say as much as what they do. I began to feel things more intensely… to notice what others often hide.”
There was loneliness in that loss—but also formation.

“As an artist, I don’t just perform emotions—I draw from something real. That early loss gave me depth, empathy, and a kind of honesty I think people connect with.”
Raised by her grandmother in Gujranwala and shaped by shifting geographies—from Lahore onward—she learned early how to exist without permanence. “Growing up across multiple cities felt like living in a constant in-between,” Saba says. “Just as something became familiar, it would change again. It can feel unsettling as a child… like you’re always learning how to belong.”
But that instability became discipline. “It taught me how to adapt without losing myself… how to find a sense of home internally rather than in a place. You become observant—you watch, you listen, you learn to read people quickly. And as an artist, that becomes a strength.”
She carries fragments of every place she’s lived—each one surfacing, quietly, in her performances.

Her journey into acting—particularly from a conservative Syed family—was not rebellion, but alignment. “Choosing acting wasn’t simple. There was hesitation… resistance… even within myself. But there was a quiet, persistent pull I couldn’t ignore,” Saba stresses. “Acting wasn’t about glamour—it felt like a way of expressing what I couldn’t say out loud.”
At some point, waiting for approval became more dangerous than uncertainty.
“If I kept waiting for everything to feel safe, I might never step into what I truly felt aligned with. So, I chose the leap. It wasn’t rebellion—it was conviction.”
Saba also resists the mythology of reinvention. “I think the woman I am today was always there… in an unformed way, “Saba asserts. “Life didn’t create her—it revealed her. The losses, the uncertainty—they strip away what isn’t real.” Her strength was not constructed—it was uncovered. “I didn’t become someone new. I understood who I already was—and learned how to stand in that fully,” Saba emphasizes.

Long before acclaim, there was collapse. Early in her career, Saba suffered a heart attack while performing on stage.
“I didn’t even realise what was happening… I just kept going.”
A combination of stress. relentless work and responsibility too early in life took their toll. “That incident made me realise that health comes first… no matter what.”
Her ultimate success was not effortless—it was how to survive.

Saba’s early breakthrough came through the satirical comedy Hum Sab Umeed Se Hain, where her mimicry and timing revealed a sharp comic instinct—one often overshadowed by the gravity of her later work. But it was her transition into layered drama—Maat, Digest Writer, Sangat, Baaghi and Cheekh—that redefined the female protagonist on Pakistani television, particularly on Hum TV. “If the role doesn’t scare me, I don’t want to do it, Saba proclaims forthrightly.
About Baaghi, inspired by the life of slain internet phenomenon Qandeel Baloch, Saba says; “I didn’t want to copy her… I wanted to understand her. There was so much pain behind that confidence.” About Cheekh Saba opines; “Women are always told to stay quiet. I wanted to show what happens when she doesn’t. Silence is the biggest crime.”

If earlier roles challenged society, Case No. 9 demanded something more dangerous—total emotional immersion. “Emotional scenes take a real toll… on the mind and the body, Saba reveals. “I’ve learned to take care of myself and breathe through it.” The role however did not end when the cameras stopped. “These characters don’t just disappear. When you go through something intense, you don’t erase it—you grow from it. The emotions stay.” Her portrayal of a woman navigating trauma within a hostile system became less performance, more indictment.

Her biggest project, Hum TV’s Muamma, which ran through early 2026 and concluded in April, marked a striking turn into psychological territory. As Jahan Ara—a layered, obsessive, and deeply complex woman—Saba delivered one of her most intense performances in recent years. The drama drew strong audience engagement for its slow-burn exploration of trauma, manipulation and power within confined domestic spaces. Saba embodied a psychologically complex woman whose quiet volatility is driven by moral ambiguity and psychological unease, her intention not to seek redemption but to expose the unsettling truth that the darkest impulses are often deeply human—and dangerously self-justified. “There’s no bigger devil than humans. Fear is not outside… it’s within us.” Saba said about the hugely successful serial. In Muamma, empathy fractured. The audience was implicated. And Saba operated at her most restrained—and most unsettling. Industry chatter already places this role among her most compelling post-Baaghi and Cheekh performances.

Saba says her engagement with a character begins in silence. “I try to sense the soul of the character… what is she hiding… what wounds is she carrying.” She says she doesn’t construct performances—she allows them to surface.
“I don’t rush it. Slowly, she reveals herself.”
On set, ego dissolves into discipline. “I’m here to serve the story, not my ego. I’ll give a hundred takes if needed.” And ultimately Saba values honesty over flattery; “You can feel the difference between truth and formality.”

Saba’s transition to cinema—particularly Hindi Medium opposite Irrfan Khan—brought international acclaim. “Working with Irrfan was like going to an acting school… he was so real, you forgot the camera was there,” Saba enthuses. She chose the project for substance—not scale. And it showed.

Saba’s off-screen life carries the same refusal to romanticise pain. Speaking candidly about an eight-year toxic relationship; “We are taught not to leave the first man… but that one sentence ruined eight years of my life,” Saba says ruefully. “He lied to me… humiliated me… it destroyed my mental peace,” she adds.
Her clarity now is unwavering; “I don’t want to be stuck in an abusive relationship… I want compatibility. Love should be unconditional—but not at the cost of your peace,” she insists.

Saba’s voice extends beyond performance into critique. “People often joke about mental stress… but experiencing it first-hand is eye-opening”, she muses. “We’re also still stuck in labels… I believe in gender equality.” She further challenges the culture of scrutiny; “Why do we discuss someone’s appearance… and then target their personality.” Saba’s advocacy on mental health—particularly during World Mental Health Month—remains grounded and urgent; “Mental health is just as important as physical health… talking about it is a sign of strength.”

As a National Ambassador for UNICEF, Saba has extended her influence into child rights and girls’ empowerment—particularly against child marriage in Pakistan.
“Why should any child be forced into a future they did not choose?” she challenges. Her work bridges visibility and responsibility—amplifying voices often unheard. In an industry where silence is often survival, Saba has chosen confrontation. Following defamatory claims by a journalist, she pursued legal action with clarity;
“No one has the right to make false accusations just for attention.” Her stance reinforced dignity in an environment that often weaponised speculation, especially against women.

Despite immense popularity, Saba Qamar remains curiously distant from the machinery of celebrity. “I want to live life, not just spend it,” she opines.
No relentless visibility. No overexposure. Even controversies—from the Badshahi Mosque photoshoot to public scrutiny of her personal life—have not diluted her authority. If anything, they reinforce it.
She controls the narrative—by choosing what not to reveal.

Beginning 2026 with the huge success of Muamma , looking ahead, Saba returns to a more relationship-driven narrative with Hurmat, an upcoming Hum TV drama co-starring Ahmed Ali Akbar, written by Kashif Anwar. Expected later in 2026, early indications suggest a grounded, emotionally resonant story—offering a deliberate contrast to Muamma’s psychological intensity. Beyond that, Saba has hinted at yet another undisclosed project on a different channel—signalling a multi-network presence and continued dominance across screens. Meanwhile, the Urduflix web series Mandi in which Saba plays Uzma Rana, a powerful, ambitious politician alongside Mikaal Zulfiqar, Ainy Jaffri, and Shayan Khan, remains in development, with details still under wraps. Taken together, her trajectory reflects a deliberate evolution: from social realism (Case No. 9) to psychological depth (Muamma), and now toward a balance of mainstream storytelling and experimental range. The industry consensus is clear—2026 is not a pause, but an expansion. Saba Qamar isn’t slowing down—she is widening her canvas.

There are rare moments in an actor’s career when multiple narratives run in parallel—when every screen carries their presence. Saba Qamar is living that moment.
But unlike the frenzy that consumed earlier superstars, Saba remains grounded, precise, and indifferent to noise. She shows up. She does the work.

By Zurain Z. Imam

There are stars—and then there’s Humayun Saeed: Pakistan’s definitive leading man, an unstoppable force on screen and behind the camera. With a career spanning over three decades, Humayun Saeed is not only one of Pakistan’s most beloved actors but also a powerhouse producer and fashion entrepreneur. He is also the mastermind behind Six Sigma Plus, the production house that has reshaped the landscape of Pakistani television and cinema

Humayun Saeed steps back into the rom-com spotlight with ‘Love Guru’ (2025), a bold new venture both in front of, and behind the camera. Co-produced by his own Six Sigma Plus alongside ARY Films and Salman Iqbal Films, the film pairs him once again with Mahira Khan, reigniting their celebrated on-screen chemistry. This marks Humayun and Mahira’s third screen pairing, following ‘Bin Roye’ and Mahira’s buzzworthy cameo in ‘London Nahi Jaunga.’

In ‘Love Guru’ Humayun plays Adil—aka Hamza Abbasi—a smooth-talking, morally ambivalent matchmaker-for-hire. Tasked with sabotaging a wedding, he infiltrates the life of Mahira Khan’s Sophia, a London-based architect, only to find himself tangled in the emotional mess he orchestrates. It’s classic Humayun: charming, witty, and unexpectedly layered by a whirlwind of deception, chemistry, and unexpected emotional stakes. Humayun’s chemistry with Mahira remains a major draw, their banter crackling with both mischief and nostalgia. Critics applauded his “deadpan humour” and comedic finesse, even as some questioned if he’s aging out of the genre. But fans—and box office numbers—say otherwise.

Shot in Karachi and London with a budget nearing PKR 28 crores, ‘Love Guru’ is Humayun’s most ambitious production yet. It celebrates cultural diversity, including Pashtun influences, and reflects his desire to tell big stories with a local heart. Humayun calls filmmaking in Pakistan “risky,” but he’s betting on love—and cinema.

‘Love Guru’ premiered in Lahore on Eid-ul-Adha 2025 and shattered opening records with PKR 29 crore domestically and raking in over PKR 55 crore globally in 15 other countries within nine days. From the UK to North America, UAE, and Australia, audiences embraced its feel-good tone and visual flair. Humayun’s gamble on rom-coms paid off, once again positioning him as a genre trailblazer. Audiences celebrated ‘Love Guru’ as a ‘complete family entertainer’ with praise for comedic value, music, and cultural resonance while critics applauded cinematography by Suleman Razzaq, vibrant colour palettes, and sharp dialogue.

Says Humayun about his experience working in Love Guru and his chemistry with Mahira, “Love Guru was a truly enjoyable experience. It was a fun film, with a great script written by Vasay Chaudhry, under the direction of Nadeem Baig and alongside my wonderful team. The comfort level on set was fantastic. I had the pleasure of working with a talented cast including Ahmed Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry, Ramsha Khan and of course Mahira Khan.”

Humayun credits his and Mahira’s comfort level and mutual respect for the effortless vibe they bring to the screen.”It had been a while since I worked with Mahira—the last time was in ‘Bin Roye’ in 2015, which was well-received by both the public and critics, especially our on-screen chemistry. Sharing the screen with her again was a pleasure. Mahira is a phenomenal actress, very committed and focused on her craft and she never throws tantrums. It’s always enjoyable working with someone like that. What made the experience even better was the friendship and comfort we share, which makes even the toughest scenes flow effortlessly.”

Off-screen and during promotions, Humayun kept it grounded not only playing a “love guru”—he had thoughts on love too. “It can happen at any age,” he laughed “But with one person at a time.” He remains candid about the pressures of aging on-screen. When online trolls questioned his and Mahira’s ages or looks, Humayun joked, “That overacting can never stop it’s been a part of her since childhood!” playfully referring to Mahira. ‘Love Guru’ isn’t just a hit—it’s a statement with Humayun continuing to champion locally-made content that connects globally. But where did the momentous journey of Pakistan’ indubitable superstar begin? Born on July 27, 1971, in Karachi, Humayun Saeed hails from a well-educated and liberal Punjabi family and grew up in a household of five brothers, including Amir Saeed, Adnan Saeed, Babar Saeed and Salman Saeed, the latter who is also an actor.

Humayun opened up about his early struggles. “I was 18 or 19 and there were many responsibilities on me. I started working alongside college, gave tuitions, but that wasn’t enough given the medical bills. My brother’s paralysis made me more responsible as I had to take care of the family.” A brilliant student, Humayun was Head Boy from 1986-87 at the not-for-profit Nasra School (alma mater to luminaries like Justice Mushir Alam and cricketer Wasim Bari) and excelled in his studies and earned distinction throughout his academic career till matriculation, later graduating from St. Patrick’s College with a degree in Commerce.

Before the lights and cameras, Saeed has stated that he wanted to be a steward in PIA and had asked his father to approach PR maven Frieha Altaf ‘s father who had a prominent position in PIA. Mr Altaf instead suggested Saeed join his son- in- law Nadeem Ahmed’s garment factory, where Humayun was eventually made a general manager and where he was happy working from 1991 to 1995 before joining the entertainment industry.

Acting wasn’t in his initial plans but fate intervened when his friend who was an actor took him to see director Tasneem Aslam, who was looking for a lead actor. Humayun was auditioned and accepted, but later got rejected, as the director said he was ‘miscast.’ The rejection only fuelled Humayun’s resolve to prove to the world that he could act.

Recalls Humayun about the genesis of his career in Entertainment, “My entry into acting was completely accidental, but I’m so glad life took me in this direction. Even now, I feel like a student of this craft—always learning, always evolving. No matter how successful you become as an actor or producer, there’s always more to discover. For me, this is the best profession in the world. It’s fulfilling on every level: creatively, emotionally, and yes, financially. It’s work, but it never feels like work.” In an earlier interview Humayun has said that at the start of his career his parents were against him acting and did not approve of his showbiz career. But with the passage of time, they saw his passion and started supporting him. In order to embark on his new journey, Humayun decided to go into production with ‘Iqraar’ also acting in the TV play written and directed by Sikander Shah. Although ‘Iqraar’ was Humayun’s maiden venture, it did not get telecast until 1998.

Humayun’s actual television debut came in 1995 with ‘Karooron Ka Aadmi directed by Nadeem A. Khan ‘ but it was the PTV musical serial ‘Ye Jahaan’ (1996) produced by Tasneem Aslam and his award-winning role as a seductive intruder in Mehreen Jabbar’s ‘Ab Tum Ja Saktay Ho‘—opposite legends Sania Saeed and the late Khalida Riyasat in her last role —that turned him into a breakout star. Later that year, his chilling performance in Yasir Akhtar’s ‘Zeher’ cemented his status as a versatile talent.

When Samina Peerzada cast Humayun as the psychotic villain Zafar in ‘Inteha’, opposite Meera and Resham, Humayun took a bold professional risk—and it paid off. He could have opted for the hero’s role, but preferred to play the villain which had more scope. The role earned Humayun his first National Award for Best Actor, and the haunting billboard image of him grinning devilishly between two sirens remains iconic.

Humayun’s second film, Sajjad Gul’s ‘No Paisa, No Problem’ did not do well at the box office, although he said he had enjoyed playing the character of a woman in the film.

During this time, Humayun continued doing TV productions alongside acting.
In the 1990’s Humayun partnered with founder and President of Hum Network Limited, Sultana Siddiqui with Friends Entertainment.

Reminisces Humayun of his long association with the trailblazing pioneer:
“I have had a long-standing association with Sultana Apa and I am especially grateful to her—she has been a tremendous influence in my life.
When I had my first production experience in America, it was by observing her in action on her own projects that I truly learned the essence of professionalism and dedication. My motivation and drive to approach work with passion and commitment come directly from Sultana Apa’s example. Hum TV stood by me in my early productions and gave me a platform to grow.”

In 2000, Humayun collaborated with Abdullah Kadwani to form Humayun Saeed-Abdullah Kadwani Productions which they later named 7th Sky Entertainment. Later, Humayun started his own production house along with Shehzad Nasib under the banner ‘Six Sigma Plus’ that produced a slew of successful serials and films, including the cult classic ‘Moorat.’

Finally, Humayun started his own production, known as H.S. Production which produced the serial, ‘Tum Hi Toh Ho’, ‘Pehli Khwahish’ ‘Adhuray Khawab’, ‘Dil Wo Bay Mehar” and ‘Undekh’ Humayun’s initial notable TV work as an actor includes ‘Mehndi’, ‘Doraha’ ‘Kabhi Kabhi Pyar Mein’, ‘Kaafir’, ‘Uraan’, ‘Hum Se Juda Na Hona’, ‘Ladies Park’ and guest roles in ‘Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan’ and ‘Daam’.

To date and since the resurgence of Pakistani Cinema in 2013, Humayun has acted in 15 feature films including the Indian Bollywood movie “Jashan” in 2009 where he was given a negative role and Pakistani mega-hits like ‘Bin Roye’, ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’, and ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’—the latter two breaking box office records and earning him the moniker “Box Office King.”

His film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani holds the record of being the fourth highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time. Jawani Phir Nahi Ani swept the ARY Film Awards ceremony with total of 17 awards, also earning him the award for the best male actor in a leading role, while his other film Punjab Nahi Jaungi has been declared as the second highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time and the highest-grossing film of 2017 in Pakistani cinema.

In 2018, he starred in the film Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2. As of 2019, the film was the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time. After its huge box office success, Humayun announced three more sequels and that the third film in JPNA franchise was in plans to be out “in two years”, one being written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and the other by Vasay Chaudhry.

On Eid ul Fitr 2022, Humayun appeared in Nadeem Baig’s London Nahi Jaunga alongside Mehwish Hayat.

When asked if he prefers acting on TV or on the big screen Humayun stoically says, “I enjoy acting in both TV and Film. Each requires a different skill set and craft. But producing and acting in films is my ultimate goal and I hope to consistently feature in entertaining films.” Humayun’s accolades include 22 prestigious awards, among them three PTV Awards, 11 Lux Style Awards, two ARY Film Awards, and two Hum Awards for his contribution to Pakistani cinema.

In 2020, Humayun returned to television and played the role of Danish in the drama serial Meray Paas Tum Ho, where he took all the credit of making it “the best serial ever made in history of Pakistan.” When asked in an interview which personality trait he had in common with Danish, he replied that he too was extremely patient. Indeed his colleagues often praise Humayun for his calm and composed personality.

For his performance in ‘Meray Paas Tum Ho’ Humayun took home the Pakistan International Screen Awards ‘Best Actor Award’. The drama became a cultural phenomenon across Pakistan and even resonated in India, where fans compared him to Shah Rukh Khan.

On March 23, 2021,Humayun was awarded the Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan during the Presidential investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, in recognition of his significant contributions to acting and the revival of the Pakistani film and television industry. Humayun has described this accolade as his “most special,” expressing deep gratitude for state recognition and pledging to continue working hard to make Pakistan proud.

In a historic moment for Pakistani entertainment, Humayun was cast as Dr. Hasnat Khan—the deeply private British-Pakistani heart surgeon romantically linked to Princess Diana—in Netflix’s royal juggernaut The Crown (Season 5). He was officially cast in January 2022, and his character debuted in episode 7, titled “No Woman’s Land”, continuing through the season’s finale This marked his formal entry into international stardom and further affirmed his cross-border appeal.

When asked what distinguishes him as an actor, Humayun has a simple riposte: “What sets me apart as an actor is my focus and mind-set. I believe an actor’s real-life attitude deeply influences their on-screen authenticity. Most of my roles have been positive and humble, so it’s important for me to reflect those qualities in real life—audiences can easily sense inauthenticity in an actor’s eyes. Some actors come across as arrogant off-screen, making it hard for viewers to believe their on-screen humility. You can’t fool a discerning audience.”

Humayun also adds that the input of the director counts. “Good direction also plays a huge role—having a director with a clear vision elevates any performance.” Among his favourite roles of all time, Humayun cites ‘Meray Paas Tum Ho‘ which he says stood out for its impact and complexity, followed by ‘Dil Lagi’. In his film roles, he found ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ with Mehwish Hayat both challenging and rewarding.

Humayun describes himself as a Method Actor and has admired and been inspired by Hollywood leading men including Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Sean Penn, Tom Hanks and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

Humayun has said he wishes to work in Bollywood with some Indian actors.
“I would love to work with Kareena Kapoor Khan. She’s a strong actor.” He praises Aishwarya Rai for her beautiful eyes but jokes that Katrina Kaif might be out of his league. In August 2024 Humayun flexed his own star quality when he co-starred with Hadiqa Kiyani in a music video for her Sufi love song, ‘Baari Thaani’ directed by Abdullah Haris and produced by SufiScore which showcased the organic and heartfelt chemistry between the two superstars .

Humayun credits his success not to stardom but to discipline and reinvention.
“If I feel I’ve gained weight, I’ll lose it. If I feel my performance lacked depth, I’ll do better next time,” he says. Fitness is now a part of his routine, especially after a serious car accident in Bangkok in 2014, which required cosmetic treatment for facial scarring.

About his personal style Humayun is quite literally black and white.
“My personal style is guided by comfort. I feel most at ease and confident in a classic black shalwar kameez, a sharp black suit, or a relaxed black linen shirt with trousers. These are my go-to looks—simple, timeless, and what I feel I look best in.” To test his own sartorial prowess and to celebrate his long-standing friendship and creative partnership with Adnan Siddiqui—from ‘Mehendi’ to the hit drama ‘Meray Pas Tum Ho’, Humayun along with Adnan launched the luxury apparel brand, Cast and Crew, in collaboration with fashion retailer J.

Off-screen, Humayun describes himself as a humble, respectful, and caring person.

Despite his fame, Humayun is shy by nature, a trait he says he’s carried since childhood. He is also quietly philanthropic, contributing generously to various causes. Humayun feels that public figures have particular responsibilities. “One of the key responsibilities of being a public figure is to maintain a positive mind-set,” Humayun asserts

“I always try to stay positive, humble and respectful. It’s very important for anyone in the public eye to show respect at all times, and to carry themselves with humility and a positive outlook on life. For celebrities or actors especially, respect and humility are essential qualities.”

Humayun is extremely protective about his private life. He has been married to Samina Humayun Saeed since 1995—a respected producer in her own right – who he has acknowledged as helping to launch and sustain his career. In the early years, her discomfort with his roles—especially in ‘Inteha’—was no secret. Humayun says, “Initially, Samina did have a problem. She wanted me to leave this field of acting, and go back to the garment business.”

But love, respect and a blossoming career prevailed.

On January 31, 2022, Humayun tweeted: “Disappointed to find out that only 1 out of 4 female doctors practice after graduation in Pakistan because of family pressure. Thinking of a new project, maybe to highlight this issue. Let’s encourage women to pursue their dreams. #DoctorBahu.” He expressed concern over how many women who train as doctors never continue to practice—often stepping down after marriage due to cultural/family expectations. He proposed producing a project tentatively titled ‘Doctor Bahu’ to spotlight this issue, the title suggesting the central conflict: a woman juggling her medical profession with traditional expectations as a daughter-in-law (bahu).

And as always, Humayun is delivering. Produced by Six Sigma Plus, ‘Doctor Bahu’, starring Kubra Khan and Shuja Asad is set to air on ARY Digital likely in September–October 2025, The TV play is written by Sanam Mehdi Zaryab and directed by Mehreen Jabbar and includes actors Adeel Hussain, Hajra Yamin, Mira Sethi, and Saba Hamid in the ensemble cast.

Humayun’s most recent TV drama serial ‘Mein Manto Nahin Hoon’ directed by Nadeem Baig with a script written by Khalil‑ur‑Rehman Qamar is produced under the aegis of the Six Sigma Plus banner and aired on ARY Digital. Says Humayun about his latest endeavour which also stars Asif Raza Mir, Usman Peerzada, Saima Noor, Azaan Sami Khan and Nameer Khan: “The interesting part about ‘Mein Manto Nahin Hoon’ was that it was my first time working with Sajal Aly and Sanam Saeed. Both are incredible actresses, and I genuinely enjoyed doing scenes with them. I have a particular liking for actors who are effortlessly natural in their delivery, and both Sajal and Sanam have that quality — they deliver their dialogues with ease and grace. About his other future plans, Humayun says he is looking forward to producing more entertaining movies.
“Jawani Phir Nahin Aani Part 3 is in the works. I’m going to produce one or two action movies as well.”

In a world of fleeting fame and algorithm-driven stories, Humayun Saeed remains a constant: romantic, relevant, and real. ‘Love Guru’ proves he’s not just a star—but a force, keeping Pakistani cinema bold, vibrant, and irresistibly watchable. He is not merely a name—he’s an institution. A storyteller. A trendsetter. A national treasure. And whether he’s romancing onscreen, producing award-winning content, or making history on an international stage, one thing’s certain: ‘The King of Pakistani Entertainment’ still rules.

In an industry where the spotlight often shines brightest on those with formal training and well laid connections, Kinza Hashmi’s journey is a refreshing exception, a tale of persistence and organic growth. Today, she stands as one of the most popular faces on television, with her indepth performance capturing the hearts of millions. Her story isn’t one of overnight success, rather a quiet progression, discovering herself through the genre and following it without being deterred by its lows and ebbs.

“I never studied acting at a formal institution,” Kinza says with honesty. “I learnt on the job. I’ve been lucky to work with very talented and senior actors who not only inspired me but also guided me along the way.” For Kinza, acting wasn’t a calculated career move; it was something that emerged from within, a spark that refused to dim. “Acting is a natural instinct,” she says. “If that spark lives in you, it can be refined, sharpened and transformed into something beautiful. And I’m still learning. Every new project teaches me something different. It’s a never-ending process.”

Like many young girls Kinza had dreams, but the idea of seeing herself on television at that time wasn’t something she had imagined would happen. “When we’re children we dream of doing so many things. But I started taking the idea seriously when my teachers and classmates encouraged me. They told me I had a voice that should be heard, because I could sing as well.” That early encouragement lit a fire in her, one that her family nurtured from the beginning. But in the end it was acting that took precedence over singing. While many aspiring artists face resistance at home, Kinza’s story was different. “I was lucky to always have support from home, especially my mother. She’s been my biggest cheerleader from the very beginning. When I decided to pursue acting seriously, she stood by me without any hesitation.”

And then came the breakthrough, a moment every actor remembers well. “My real break came when I was cast in Ishq Tamasha,” she reveals. “That drama changed everything for me. People started recognizing me, appreciating my work. It opened doors to new opportunities and allowed me to grow as an actor.” Ishq Tamasha which aired on HUM TV, became a turning point in her career, not just because of its success, but because it allowed Kinza to show the depth of her talent. From there, as the saying goes, she never looked back.

Kinza’s path into the entertainment industry had its initial hiccups. “The early days were definitely challenging,” she reflects. “There’s so much to figure out when you’re starting out, how the industry works, how to carry yourself, how to improve your performance. A lot of it, I had to learn on my own. But again, I was lucky to meet the right people at the right time.”

Her breakthrough didn’t suddenly happen, it came slowly. One project led to another, and soon people began to notice the girl with the expressive eyes, fresh looks and the emotional depth that seemed to come naturally on screen. “I didn’t have a mentor in the traditional sense, but I watched and learned. And slowly, things started falling into place.”

Today, Kinza Hashmi isn’t just a face on screen, she’s a voice, a presence. There’s something quietly magnetic about her performances. Whether she’s portraying a conflicted daughter, a misunderstood lover, or a woman finding her strength, there’s always a thread of authenticity that connects her to the audience. So, where does this emotional depth come from? “I think it comes from being observant,” she reflects. “I notice people, I absorb their energy, I think about what they might be feeling. And then I try to bring that into my characters. Every story has truth in it, even fiction reflects real human emotion.”

With success comes attention and the pressure to maintain a certain image. But Kinza seems to navigate that space with humility. She’s present on social media, but not overly curated. She dresses with style but without pretension. And most of all, she talks with the sincerity of someone who hasn’t let fame harden her. “Fame is part of the job, but it’s not the reason I do it. I act because I love it. And as long as that love remains, I’ll keep going,” she emphasises.

Off the camera, Kinza is soft-spoken and introspective. She values her quiet moments, cherishes her inner circle and doesn’t chase trends for the sake of relevance. “It’s easy to lose yourself in this industry,” she admits. “But I try to remain connected to who I was before all of this.” When asked about the kind of characters she’s drawn to, her response is immediate: “I love roles that portray characters who are complicated, who struggle and who evolve. “And it is this very love for layered storytelling that makes her performances memorable. She’s not afraid to show vulnerability on screen, letting silence speak when its needed, or making her characters uncomfortable if that’s what the story requires. Whether she’s playing a romantic lead or a complex character wrestling with inner conflict, she brings a sincerity that feels refreshingly unforced. In dramas like Gul-o-Gulzar, she portrayed the quiet strength of a girl betrayed by her closest friend with remarkable poise, while in Mohlat, she convincingly embodied the vulnerability of a woman navigating a loveless marriage. In Dil Awaiz, Kinza embraced emotional depth playing a character caught between familial duty and personal longing, while in Tera Yahan Koi Nahin, she delivered a layered performance that earned her wide appreciation.

But Kinza doesn’t rest on her laurels. She views each project as a new challenge, each role as a chance to expand her artistic range, and it is this dedication to growth that keeps her evolving as one of television’s most versatile and promising actresses. “I want to take risks,” she says with a quiet confidence. “I don’t want to be typecast. There’s so much I haven’t done yet and I’m excited to explore all that is required to make my characters come to life.”

Given Kinza’s association with one of the biggest networks in the country, it’s only natural to ask how she feels about HUM TV, a platform that has supported and elevated many actors’ careers. “HUM TV has been like a home to me,” Kinza says with genuine affection. “They believed in me when I was still finding my feet. I’ve done some of my most important serials with them, and I’ll always be grateful for their faith in me.” Her bond with HUM is more personal than professional. There’s mutual respect and a shared passion for quality storytelling.

Her fans, no doubt, are excited to see what she does next. But Kinza Hashmi isn’t in a rush. She’s walking her path with patience, purpose and the same quiet determination that brought her from schoolgirl dreams to national stardom. And if her journey is any indication, the best is yet to come.

Getting hold of multi-talented British-Pakistani actor, host, and producer Ahsan Khan feels a bit like tumbling down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. Elusive, always on the move, and wrapped up in one project or another, he’s a man in constant motion. But when you finally do catch up with him, it’s more than worth the chase.

In person, Ahsan Khan is nothing like the complex characters he often plays. Light-eyed, sharply dressed, and charmingly friendly, he greets you with warmth and wit. There’s no air of superiority, no diva demands – only a readiness to laugh, share, and dive deep into the conversation. He cracks jokes, listens carefully, and answers with thoughtfulness – all the makings of someone who’s not only popular with audiences, but with anyone who has the pleasure of speaking to him.

And yet, beneath that approachable exterior lies an artist with a clear vision: someone who has spent over two decades deliberately carving out a space that challenges norms, avoids typecasting, and explores the layered human experience in all its light and darkness.

“I was never the one to play stereotypical roles,” Ahsan says early in the conversation, firmly but without bravado. “I want to play the spiritual Taha Abul Ala from Alif… and the evil Imtiaz from Udaari… and the pious Saleem from Dastaan. My goal is to be remembered as an actor who diversifies.” And he’s not exaggerating.

From his earliest days in the industry – beginning with Nikah in 1997 and the TV serial Sehra in 2003 – to his latest hit, the supernatural thriller Dayan in 2025, Ahsan has played more than 80 serials and 13 films, each performance adding a new shade to his already colourful palette.

He’s taken on some of the most challenging roles in Pakistani television history. His portrayal of Imtiaz, a child abuser in Udaari, was deeply disturbing yet powerfully impactful. It not only won him a Lux Best Actor Award in 2016, but also transformed him into an advocate for children’s protection against abuse. “That role changed me,” he reflects. “It wasn’t easy. But I knew the impact it could have. And that’s what made it worth doing.”

This push for storytelling that matters – that educates and opens dialogues – is a clear through-line in Ahsan’s career. He’s not just seeking applause; he’s seeking purpose. I’ve done many of my favourite plays with Hum TV, including Na Kaho Tum Mere Nahi,” says Ahsan. Hum TV helped revive quality drama in Pakistan when the industry was struggling. Sultana Apa, Momina Bhabi, and Duraid Bhai played a major role in that. For Ahsan, his relationship with Hum TV goes beyond work — it’s a bond rooted in mutual trust and creative growth. “Hum TV is like family,” he adds.

Despite his status as one of Pakistan’s most bankable stars, Ahsan never let himself be boxed in. He moves fluidly between television and film, drama and comedy, villain and hero. In cinema, he’s made his mark with films like Chupan Chupai (2017), where he played opposite Neelam Muneer in a light-hearted crime comedy that was both a commercial hit and a fan favourite. In 2022’s Rehbra, he brought a different flavour again, solidifying his versatility and reminding audiences that there is no “typical” Ahsan Khan performance.

His television work reads like a guidebook to modern Pakistani drama – from classics like Dastaan, Mujhe Khuda Pe Yaqeen Hai and Aangan, to hard-hitting narratives like Qissa Meherbano Ka where he played Murad, a character audiences loved to hate. “I enjoy exploring the grey,” he says with a shrug. “Black-and-white characters don’t interest me anymore. I want roles where the audience feels conflicted.”

This appetite for complexity has not only drawn in critical acclaim, but also created a deeply loyal fan base. Ahsan Khan isn’t just admired – he’s respected. But acting is just one part of the story. Ahsan’s popularity skyrocketed to another level with the launch of his talk shows BOL Nights with Ahsan Khan and Time Out with Ahsan Khan. As a host, he’s witty, disarming and refreshingly candid – qualities that immediately set him apart in a genre often bogged down by predictability. “I wanted to do something fun and different. I wanted guests to relax, to open up, to be themselves,” he explains. “Time Out wasn’t just a show – it was a vibe.”

The formula worked. Both shows became fan favourites, with clips going viral and celebrity guests flocking to his couch. The success added a whole new dimension to his career, proving he wasn’t just a serious actor – he was also someone who could carry an entire entertainment format on his shoulders.

A quick glance at Ahsan’s filmography and you’ll see a who’s who of Pakistan’s finest actresses. From Saba Qamar, Mehwish Hayat, Sajal Aly, to Neelam Munir and beyond – he’s shared the screen with almost every major female lead in the industry.

What’s more impressive, though, is the chemistry he builds with his co-stars, regardless of genre. Whether it’s a tragic love story, a romantic comedy, or a family drama, Ahsan brings emotional sincerity and sharp timing, elevating the overall impact of the project. “You have to connect with your co-stars, with the story, with the moment. Otherwise, it doesn’t land,” he says, showing the mindset of a true collaborator.

Having been in the industry for over 20 years, one might expect some level of fatigue or repetition. But not with Ahsan Khan. He’s constantly evolving, constantly curious.“There are so many stories still to tell,” he says. “I’m just getting started.”This hunger to explore and expand has kept him relevant across generations. While many actors fade after a certain age or success cycle, Ahsan continues to push boundaries – both in terms of performance and medium.

He also hasn’t forgotten his roots. “London gave me the exposure, Pakistan gave me the platform,” he says, proudly acknowledging both his British upbringing and his Pakistani identity It’s a blend that has served him well – allowing him to straddle the line between global polish and local authenticity with ease.

Looking ahead, Ahsan is not only focused on choosing good scripts but also on creating them. As a producer, he’s stepping behind the camera to shape narratives on his own terms. He’s vocal about using his platform to highlight issues that matter – especially child abuse, education, and gender-based violence. “There’s so much noise out there. If you have a voice, you should use it well,” he says.

He’s also increasingly drawn toward roles that inspire empathy and understanding. “If someone watches a character I play and begins to think differently about life, society, or even themselves – that’s when I’ve done my job.”

What defines Ahsan Khan is not just talent – it’s range, intent, and integrity. He’s the rare kind of artist who has learned to dance between extremes without losing his core. Villain, hero, host, producer, activist – he’s worn many hats, and each time, he’s worn them well. In an industry often driven by trends and formulas, Ahsan remains a chameleon – unpredictable in the best way possible.

And perhaps that’s why we keep watching. Because with Ahsan Khan, you never really know what you’re going to get – but you can be sure it’ll be worth your time.

The 9th edition of HUM Awards made a spectacular entry with a dazzling event held at the iconic OVO Arena Wembley, London attracting a live audience of more than 10,000 attendees, while hundreds of fans gathered outside the venue, eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars. The Danube Properties Dubai Presents Kashmir 9th HUM Awards celebrated the very best in Pakistani entertainment, digitally presented by JazzCash and powered by TikTok.

As the evening unraveled, so immaculately was it presented that the audience sat with bated breath for each sequence to follow. Experience had taught the presenters what was required at such a huge presentation of Hum Entertainment thus making the show run smoothly, and indeed running the show on such a humongous scale is something short of a miracle outside one’s own environment.

By Zurain Imam

Mehwish Hayat is arguably one of Pakistan’s most talented, versatile and internationally celebrated superstar. About four years ago at a British High Commission James Bond themed gala party I was sitting alone by myself feeling lost, still reeling from my mother’s recent passing away when Mehwish noticed me sulking and left the dance floor to ask me to waltz with her. I was indubitably and forever touched.

We meet at Hum TV Network headquarters amidst a flurry of activity with journalists, influencers et al vying for Mehwish and her Daghabaaz Dil co-star Ali Rehman Khan’s’s attention during their promotion for the movie. Directed by Wajahat Rauf, Daghabaaz Dil was the only Pakistani film that was released on Eid Al-Fitr holidays. Apart from Mehwish and Ali, who played the male lead, the film also featured veteran actor Saleem Shaikh and popular Internet personality Momin Saqib in prominent roles. “There was some element of supernatural stuff happening around me in the movie and at some point I get possessed in the movie. In our culture, we keep hearing these haunted stories about jinns which we are very fascinated about. So for me, it was just based on my observation as an actress and how well I could do it.”

Mehwish says it was the same type of preparation involved when she worked with Wahaj (Ali) for the first time in director Nabeel Baig’s ‘Ek Sau Taeeswan‘ part of the ‘Teri Meri Kahaniyan’ trilogy, her first comeback into films after a long hiatus.

Mehwish remains a stalwart figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry who has made an indelible mark with her acting prowess in several blockbuster films that have all been hits: one of the only Pakistani actresses to achieve this feat.

” It was my first time working with Wahaj and his cinematic debut,” Mehwish says. “In fact, I had never met him before. I had only seen some of his work on TV. But even then, the chemistry was good and what really helped in that case was that we did a lot of rehearsals before going on the shoot.”

Mehwish remains a stalwart figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry who has made an indelible mark with her acting prowess in several blockbuster films that have all been hits: one of the only Pakistani actresses to achieve this feat. So where did Mehwish’s journey begin? Born on January 6, 1988, in Karachi, 36 year-old Capricorn Mehwish belongs to a family teeming with artistic creativity.

“Acting was always my first love,” Mehwish says. “But the singing comes from the fact that my siblings are into music and are accomplished singers and musicians. Ever since I was a child, I was always surrounded by music and I would sing along with my brother and sister. I had the most wonderful childhood! Usually kids grow up and think, ‘Oh, we wish we had this or that’ growing up. My mother always made sure that I got the best education and the best and latest toys.”

Mehwish attended Karachi University and received a Bachelor’s in Arts.
” I was a geek and wanted to become an engineer, but then I started acting early because of my mother. I did a couple of guest appearances when I accompanied Ami to the PTV studios. I would just lose myself into the whole magical world of sets and TV work. The acting bug was definitely there.” Mehwish’s father did not discourage her to act.
“He just wanted to ensure that I received good education and that I didn’t quit studying. I got my degree just because my father wouldn’t allow otherwise.”

Later after dabbling in modelling and appearing in various commercials and fashion shows, Mehwish’s breakthrough role came in 2012 with the hit drama serial ‘Meri Behen Maya’ in which she sang the title song. The 2012 romantic drama series Meray Qatil Meray Dildar however marked a significant turning point in Mehwish’s career, earning her praise and a nomination for Best Actress at the Lux Style Awards. Then there was Anjum Shahzad’s highly successful family drama Kabhi Kabhi (2013) that also did really well alongside ‘Man Jali’ (with Mikaal Zulfiqar) and Momina Duraid’s ‘Mirat-ul-Uroos’ (with Ahsan Khan, Aamina Sheikh and Mikaal Zulfiqar).” Mehwish had earlier acted in three other dramas of Momina Duraid including Phir Chand Pe Dastak (2011), Ishq Mein Teray (2013) and Ru Baru (2014).

“There was also Kashif Nisar’s acclaimed series ‘Kami Reh Gahi’ (2013) where I portray a strong-headed woman in which I acted alongside Noman Ijaz. For me to be working with such an iconic actor at that age – I was in my early 20s- was special. All these projects really posited me as an upcoming actress ‘who has it all’ or that’s what they used to say about me. And now here we are.”

Mehwish admits she garnered major attention from her ‘item number’ ‘Billi’ from the 2014 blockbuster film ‘Na Maloom Afraad.’ At that time, in India, a lot of item numbers were becoming popular,” Mehwish reminisces. Does she think the term, ‘item number’ is derogatory?
“It’s a bad term. All the old Pakistani movies had one song with Madame Noor Jehan’s vocals, with songs like ‘Jawaani Meri’ ‘Bijli’, ‘Tufaan’ and the ilk. At that time, no one said anything or called them ‘item numbers’ or complained about them. There was an audience at that time, too, for these kind of films and songs. The term ‘item number’ emanates from Bollywood and some Pakistanis have a negative reaction to the way they present those songs. But then again, it was just 10 per cent of the populace who had an issue. The rest still remember ‘Billi.‘ It’s the most iconic song ever which launched my movie career.”

After making her debut with the hit comedy film ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ (2015) in 2016, she starred in the blockbuster movie ‘Actor in Law’ opposite Fahad Mustafa. Her performance as a strong and independent woman resonated with audiences, and she won the Lux Style Award for Best Actress.

Mehwish later starred in comedies Punjab Nahi Jaungi (2017), Load Wedding (2018) Chhalawa, (2019) and London Nahi Jaunga (2022) all of which rank among one of highest-grossing Pakistani films.

Mehwish is renowned for her advocacy of significant social causes and is a dedicated philanthropist who has been involved in various charitable initiatives, including supporting education and healthcare and advocating for women’s rights and gender equality.

What is the main criteria for Mehwish to accept TV roles? Does she see acting on TV as a downer from being a movie star? “I’m very picky about any work that I do whether it’s a TV drama, a TV commercial or a film. I don’t see acting on TV as a downer, not at all. Basically, our dramas are world famous which has been a constant for us, while our movie and music industries collapsed at one point.

The reason she was not doing dramas was because every year she was doing a movie. “And I like to focus on one project at a time. It’s a very Capricornian trait. I can’t be pulled in different directions because then I lose track and focus. But I went back and did the movie ‘Dillagi’ (2016) with Humayun Saeed again after a long break, because I had not been able to find the right kind of TV script or the right kind of character,” Mehwish adds.
What type of roles excite Mehwish? “Challenging roles that I’ve not done before!” Her favourite directors are Nadeem Baig and Nabeel. As far as co-stars go, everyone she has worked with have been amazing and wonderful and she loves them all, she emphasizes.

Any early acting inspirations, any actress that Mehwish has admired? She emphasises that every senior actress has been nice to her, especially Javeria Abbasi who was like a big sister on the set and taught her a lot. “I’m thankful to her that whenever I worked with her on any project, she would just take me under her wing and give me these tiny tips that no actor gives you. In addition, I learned a lot working with Sajid Hassan and Abid Ali sahib (may he rest in peace) was an amazing director and co-actor to work with.”

Mehwish also recently acted in an RT telefilm, ‘Ijazat’ with her close friend, globetrotting couturier Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY) after an absence of seven long years from TV when she last starred in ‘Dil Lagi’ with Humayun Saeed. ‘Ijazat’ was written by veteran novelist and screenwriter Faiza Iftikhar and directed by Ahmed Bhatti.

So, what is Mehwish’s opinion about models, singers, designers, influencers, make-up artists and even journalists getting into acting and does she think that undermines the craft of acting. “That’s an interesting and good question,” Mehwish muses. “There have been times when somebody was a singer, and they made an appearance in a drama and was not good at it. They’re just doing it till they find another alternative to survive. But a lot of singers have acted and some of them are phenomenal. like Junaid Khan and Farhan Saeed. We have all these examples of singers coming into acting and doing well. Also, designers like Deepak Perwani who are amazing because they have that X factor, that kind of ability to perform and act. Not everyone can be an actor and not everybody can be a singer either.

Given her family’s immersion in music, Mehwish herself is an accomplished singer and appeared on Coke Studio Season 9 in 2017 singing the duet ‘Tu Hi Tu’ with Shiraz Uppal. Recently she announced her inaugural collaboration with Bollywood rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh – news that stirred excitement within both Pakistan and India’s music spheres. She posted a photo of the two of them and wrote: “Teamed up with my favourite desi kalakaar, Yo Yo Honey Singh, on an electrifying new track ‘Noorani.’

Very few Pakistani stars are vocal about the equitable representation of Muslims in Bollywood and Hollywood. Mehwish has leveraged her powerful platform and made headlines for being the first major star to condemn problematic depictions of Muslims and Pakistanis in both Hollywood and Bollywood films.

Does Mehwish see any change, any improvement and does she think there’s going to be any interaction between Indian and Pakistani talent in the future? “For the longest time, I’ve been speaking about this issue on every platform and on every stage, wherever I have gone international about how Muslims and Pakistanis have been misunderstood and misrepresented as just one kind of people. Either terrorists; troublemakers or the ones who are very conservative. Being both a Pakistani and a Muslim this is something that I don’t relate with, whether in the West or in Bollywood. I also had objection to the fact that if there would be a role of a Pakistani or Muslim it would be played by someone who is neither. Why was a Pakistani not playing a Pakistani role? Now there are so many projects where this is happening like ‘Miss Marvel’, “Mehwish glows.

In 2022 Mehwish had a supporting role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series Ms. Marvel, as the character Aisha, who has to flee India to Pakistan during the 1940s. “Miss Marvel really made me feel like the change was achievable. Miss Marvel being the first Muslim superhero in the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe was a huge breakthrough especially with its Pakistani director, Sharmin Obaid Chinoy, a woman leading a woman-based story with other Pakistani actors in it,” Mehwish enthuses. That’s why I came up with this Pink Llama production company. We needed to take matters into our hands.”
What was the impetus and genesis about the UK-based production company Pink Llama? Mehwish explains she founded the company to back bold nuanced narratives from underrepresented communities resonating globally. As a producer, Mehwish says she relishes the chance to break out of her country’s bubble and collaborate with daring voices from overlooked backgrounds worldwide. “The local industry caters too narrowly to domestic sensibilities rather than embracing stories with universal appeal,” she stresses. “Pakistani filmmakers should remove their self-imposed blinkers, collaborate across borders and make content about Pakistan rather than just for Pakistanis.”

Mehwish envisions Pakistani cinema capturing the same worldwide acclaim that the country’s vibrant music has achieved. She points to South Korea’s film industry as an inspiration for how creative hubs can transition from regional recognition to exporting culture globally.

She says she may direct in future, but her current priority is developing the promising Pink Llama slate showcasing the richness of under-heard perspectives. “I believe that we in the film industry carry a tremendous responsibility. Cinema is a very powerful tool. It can change people’s behaviours and attitudes.” About refusing offers from Bollywood Mehwish ripostes, “I have countless opportunities here in Pakistan. I have been part of the revival of Pakistani cinema and received immense respect and love in my own country.”

Mehwish has received numerous awards and nominations for her outstanding performances. Some of her notable awards include Lux Style Award for Best Actress (2017); Hum Award for Best Actress (2018) and Pakistan International Film Festival Award for Best Actress (2018)

In 2019, Mehwish was honoured by the President of Pakistan for her trailblazing acting career and contributions to the arts with the fourth highest civilian award Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

In the same year, The Muslim Vibe recognised her as one of the Top Five Most Influential Muslim Women in the World. She was recognised by the Prime Minister of Norway in a prestigious ceremony in Oslo where she was bestowed with the Pride of Performance.

Mehwish Hayat added another feather to her cap by bagging the Best Actress award for her remarkable performance in the movie London Nahi Jaunga at the International Pakistan Prestige Awards (IPPA) held in Manchester in 2023.

Mehwish is renowned for her advocacy of significant social causes and is a dedicated philanthropist who has been involved in various charitable initiatives, including supporting education and healthcare and advocating for women’s rights and gender equality.

At IPPA Mehwish delivered a powerful and heartfelt acceptance speech which was dedicated to stopping the genocide in Gaza and a tribute to mothers which resonated with fans and the audience alike. In an Instagram video, Mehwish chose to shed light on the ongoing atrocities in Gaza and spoke of the plight of mothers losing their children.

Although Mehwish has been blessed with accolades, this has not come without some sort of acrimonious backlash. When she received the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on Pakistan Day, March 23, 2019, for her contribution to Pakistani cinema, she immediately received negative publicity. She took to social media with an Instagram post to respond to online trolls who questioned her morals and character. “You are given an award that has been bestowed to our legends and heroes in the past. But the very fact that I could have received that honour because of my contribution to Pakistani Cinema and Art was overlooked. It was assumed that I slept my way to the award. I had to stand up and fight for it because that is one thing that I can’t take. Nobody can question my credibility and my character.”

Mehwish goes on to explain the machinations of the entertainment industry that oftentimes render it an ill repute. “What happens is, we belong to a very glamorous industry and we sometimes have to show some skin for some character that we’re playing, for example in the song sequence ‘Billi’. I had to dance because I’m an actress and that’s a role. We as artists are very emotional and sensitive people and work under extreme conditions enduring strenuous working hours. No matter how you’re feeling inside, you have to play a role and put up a brave face and that is not easy. The assumption that we have given up on our values and forsaken our morals really must change.”

Mehwish explains how she handles the pressures and expectations that come with fame. “It can definitely be challenging but it’s important to remember to prioritize your mental and emotional well-being.” The one thing that keeps her going on difficult days is her unwavering faith in Allah. She reveals honestly that most people fear her but makes it clear that behind her seemingly intimidating façade, lies a woman who is indubitably down-to-earth.

When it comes to romance do looks matter to her? “Good looks don’t matter; personality matters,” she asserts. Her criterion for a potential partner includes someone who is kind and cultured with a good sense of humour. “I’m a very serious person, so I want someone who can constantly make me laugh to strike that balance,”.
